Video and DVD Policy

Borrowing and Returning

  • To borrow videos and DVDs, patrons must present their valid library card at the library circulation desk or have an approved borrower card application pending. A parent of guardian's permission is required for video and DVD loans to patrons under the age of 16. DVD players are available for loan to patrons who are 18 years or older.
  • Borrowing limit is seven videos and seven DVDs per library card or two per pending card application. Videos and DVDs packaged in a double cas count as one item.
  • Videos and DVDs are loaned for seven days. If the library is closed on the due date, the videos and DVDs are due on the next day the library is open. The due date is found on the printed receipt.
  • Four renewals are permitted for videos and DVDs, except when the item has holds.
  • Reserves/holds are taken for all video and DVD titles.
  • Videos and DVDs are available at the Franklin Branch, White River Branch, Clark Pleasant Branch, and Trafalgar Branch. Videos and DVDs may be returned to the video/book drop when the library is closed.

Fines

  • Fines for overdue videos and DVDs are charged at a rate of $1 per item per day up to $50 or the replacement cost of the video or DVD. Fines are only charged for those days the library is open. Videos and DVDs packaged in a double case count as one item.
  • A $1 "no pick-up" fee will be charged for videos and DVDs that are reserved but not picked up or cancelled.

Care and Damage

  • Please rewind videos to help prevent damage to the video. If a library video breaks, do not try to repair the tape; return it to the library for evaluation. Library staff can repair some tape damage.
  • Please handle the library's DVDs carefully to prevent scratching. If a library DVD is damaged, return it to the library for evaluation.
  • If a video or DVD cannot be repaired, the borrower may be charged the replacement cost for the damaged item, plus a processing fee.
  • The library is not responsible for damage to a patron's VCR or DVD player.

Booking Videos

  • Teachers (certified and employed in educating individuals) and activity directors of nursing homes and health care centers may book educational videos for a period of 7 days, with at least one week's advance notice to the Franklin or White River AV Department. You must book the videos at the library where you will pick them up.
