Literacy Essay Contest in September

Published Wednesday, August 31, 2011 by Robin Martinez

As part of International Literacy Month 2011, the Johnson County Public Library is pleased to announce its 2nd Annual Essay Contest.

We invite anyone between grades 3rd and 12th as well as all adults to submit a 500 word essay answering the question, “In what way does literacy help a country grow and become strong?”

Essays will be judged in one of three categories: School Age Children (grades 3-5); Tweens and Teens (grades 6-12); and Adults. All entries must be received by September 30 and be accompanied by a permission form.

A three-judge panel will review all essays and choose the winners based on creativity, adherence to the guidelines, spelling, and grammar. Winners will be announced during the last week of October.

For a complete list of rules and to download the entry form, please visit www.jcplin.org or visit any JCPL branch.

For more information, please contact Library Assistant, Lori Roberts, at 878-9560.
