Women in the Civil War Program

Published Thursday, August 11, 2011 by Robin Martinez

Have you ever noticed that most of the books and movies about the Civil War tells us what happened to the men and boys who went off to war? Were there no women during the Civil War? Well, of course there were! Come to the Johnson County Museum of History to find out what the women of the Civil War did while their menfolk were off fighting.

Professional storyteller, Sharon Kirk Clifton, will present her program At Home and in Harm’s Way: The Role of Indiana Women in the Civil War on Saturday, August 13 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Taking on the character of historical figure, Elizabeth George, Clifton will tell patrons and staff engaging, and often heartbreaking, stories of the struggles and survival of Hoosier women during the “War Between the States.”

This program,  a partnership between the Johnson County Public Library and the Johnson County Museum of History, is free of charge.

To register, call 738-2833 or visit www.jcplin.org

Open to all ages.
