New policy allows patrons to rent space for commercial use, special events.

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Beginning January 1, business owners will be able to rent the Community Rooms and Quiet Study Rooms at Johnson County Public Library branches for commercial use. The library will also allow private parties to rent the rooms for special events.

According to White River Branch’s Adult Services Manager Tiffany Wilson and Adult Materials Selector Karen Emery, who helped to develop the new policies, reserving the Community Rooms to promote and sell products and services is one of the top requests from small-business owners.

“We hope that these changes to our Community Room use policies will provide a valuable resource to the business community in Johnson County,” said Wilson.

Patrons will be able to rent all or half of the Community Rooms. Renting half the room at the Franklin, Trafalgar, or White River Branch will cost $25 for the first hour and $15 for each additional hour. Renting the whole room at the Clark Pleasant, Franklin, Trafalgar, or White River Branch will cost $50 for the first hour and $25 for each additional hour.

The quiet study rooms at the Franklin and Trafalgar branches will be available to rent at $10 per hour for purposes like depositions and business consultations.

Some equipment like laptops and overhead projectors will also be available for minimal usage fees, while other items like screens, white boards, and audio-visual carts will be available at no cost.

Not-for-profit groups will still be able to reserve the Community Rooms at no charge up to twice a month for educational, cultural, recreational, and civic purposes. All such meetings must be open to the general public. Registration fees covering only the cost of materials will not disqualify groups from free room use. However, groups will need to pay a rental fee if they intend to use the room to sell products and services or to raise money for a cause or organization.
