Christmas Peppermint Squares

Crust Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Filling Ingredients
- 4 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 2 T milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 5-10 drops red food coloring
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy
Topping Ingredients
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 T milk
- 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract
- 1/4 cup crushed peppermint candy
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°. Lightly grease 7"x11"-inch baking dish.
- Crust - sift together flour and powdered sugar; cut in butter with fork until mixture is crumbly; stir in nuts. Press 2/3 of mixture into prepared baking dish. Bake 10 minutes.
- Filling - Whisk together first four ingredients; sift in powdered sugar and mix until smooth; stir in crushed peppermint candy. Spread evenly on baked crust. Sprinkle with remaining crust mixture and pat lightly. Bake 15 to 20 minutes.
- Topping - Sift powdered sugar; stir in peppermint extract and enough milk to make a glaze. Drizzle over warm cookies and sprinkle immediately with crushed peppermint candy.
- Cut into small squares when cool. Store tightly covered.
Yield: Depends on size of squares
