Calling for the Man in the Black Robe
Peering at shiny lights,
Covering your ears from constant beeps,
Numbers on the monitor,
Scared for the one for your heart,
Pushing past pain when friends come to visit,
Hiding the control the monster inside,
Has over you.
You beamed with youth and happiness in the past,
Now you wilt away like a sunless flower.
You can't even enjoy the freedom of breathing on your own.
I see you wanting to be free of plastic snakes, cruel metal fangs.
You had me hold your hand when they,
Turned the machines off,
Untangled the plastic snakes,
Their fangs gone now.
The Reaper grins at you in delight,
Standing over you,
And lifts your soul into his arms.
